Earl Simmons (born on December 18, 1970), better known by his stage name DMX, is an African American rapper and actor, who became popular during the late-1990s into the 2000s.

His material often includes dark subject matter delivered through a gruff rhyming style, and trademark ad libs such as barking. He has a loyal fanbase which crosses over genres, including hardcore rap audiences, as well as metal, R&B and rock music fans.

DMX has set unprecedented release records through the United States and the world. In 1998, he became the first artist ever to release two albums in the same year and have them both debut at number one on the Billboard charts.
